We have been to Desert Sun two times, once during the higher season (October) and once during low season (August). The trips were quite different from each other so we’ll summarize them separately. October is a great time of year for weather in Palm Springs. We visited Desert Sun for 4 nights and each day the high was around 90 and the low around 70. The resort was just about at capacity with the best mix of guests we’ve found anywhere. We were in our mid 30s for this trip and there were a number of other folks around our age and some even younger. We tend to find ourselves as the youngest guests at many places so this stuck out as a significant positive in our minds. There were some intense but fun volleyball games going on and plenty of enjoyable conversation. Food and drinks in the restaurant were quite good, though a bit pricey. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were served all weekend long but note that meal service is reduced on weekdays. We checked out on a Tuesday and noticed that the resort really quieted down Sunday night and Monday, whereas Friday and Saturday were quite active. We stayed in a Chaparral room which was completely sufficient and good value for the price. Our second visit to Desert Sun was in August. The first word that came to mind was HOT. The temperature was near 115 degrees F each day and got down into the 80s overnight. Even with nothing on it was just too hot sometimes. The resort was pretty empty this trip and as a result the restaurant was closed except for lunch on Saturday. There are liquor stores and a 7/11 nearby so we had no trouble procuring snacks and drinks for the weekend. There are also several restaurants within a short walk of the resort or you could drive/taxi into Palm Springs downtown. The facilities were in very good condition, as was the case on our first visit, and the rooms were in great condition too. Again we felt the value was good for the money. Based on both our trips, we would certainly return but would not do so in July and August. Spring and fall would be ideal times to visit.
